Students must complete assignments relating to TWO books that they have read INDEPENDENTLY each semester; one in the first term, and one in the second.
You can choose between this assignment (book report), or the book talk or book cover assignments. A book report would fall into Writing Category 3 or 5 (see the writing assignment page for details). Book reports must be done on NOVELS (not short story collections, plays, or non-fiction books); the novel must be at grade level (or higher).
Book Reports are marked as follows:
Basic information (character descriptions, setting and theme) 5 marks
Paragraph: 30 mark writing rubric
Second Paragraph (first term) or Essay (second term): 30 mark writing rubric.
Please read the assignments carefully! You must be certain you have parental permission to read the novel (signed assignment sheet must be submitted with the book report). You must choose TWO of the four topics to write about. For the first term options, you need TWO well-written literary paragraphs (Topic Sentence, 3-5 pieces of evidence and/or support, correctly cited, and a Concluding Sentence). For second term options you need ONE well-written literary paragraph and ONE well-written literary essay.
